In November 2021, an international team of experts from the Centre for Quality Assessment in Higher Education (SKVC) carried out a third-party assessment of Kolping University of Applied Sciences (KUAS). The assessment covered the areas of management, quality assurance, studies and research (arts) activities, and the impact on the region and the country. The KUAS scored remarkably high in all the areas and was awarded the best possible accreditation for seven years of operation.
According to the assessment of the international team of experts, all the above-mentioned evaluated areas reflect very well the needs of the labour market and the rapidly changing society, as well as the KUAS’s mission and vision. The management area is being developed systematically, with no major nonconformities. The KUAS has a robust culture, ethos, and values, which are evident in all management aspects. A powerful sense of social responsibility is reflected in the institution’s activities and behaviour and the relations with students, social partners, and the community. A team of experts noted the emerging institutional identity in the studies portfolio, with a strong focus on social responsibility. The KUAS’s links with the social partners make it possible for the institution to respond appropriately to emerging occupational needs and allow for the development of internship and placement opportunities for the graduates.
In addition, the KUAS has a well-established quality assurance culture, as evidenced by the implementation and effectiveness of the Quality Management System. The Quality Manual is comprehensive and can be an example of international best practices for academic institutions. The KUAS fully supports its staff and students, including continuing professional development and access to research and scholarly activities. The high standard of academic integrity, non-discrimination and ethical values are evident, and feedback from third-party assessments is used for improvement. The KUAS’s distinctive study quality proves its excellency in the national context and internationally.
The experts and students who participated in the meetings were also very positive about the studies and research (arts) activities at the KUAS, highlighting the strong values and culture of the institution as the added value to the students’ experience. In the discussions with the experts, students repeatedly referred to the assistance and support they received from the staff. According to the students, small study groups, case studies, and internships create significant value in the learning experience, increasing their understanding and awareness of the relevant field of study to achieve the required outcomes of higher education. In addition, a high-quality curriculum grid allows students to acquire broader horizons, more diverse competencies, and the ability to make their own decisions and adapt to the new and interdisciplinary knowledge society.
