ACCOUNTING AND SUSTAINABLE FINANCE

Objective of the study programme of Accounting and Sustainable Finance is to prepare highly qualified, socially responsible accounting and sustainable finance specialists who can organise, perform, control and improve accounting, finance management, financial analysis and foresight activities of economic entities, based on the principles of sustainability and subject to a continuous learning in the context of a changing global environment.

This is one of the pioneering study programmes in Lithuania that ingeniously combines the principles of accounting with those of sustainable finance.

Studies are organised in a modern study format, in a hybrid mode (combining contact and distance education). The duration of studies is three years. A hybrid learning mode allows students to combine their studies with work or travelling from other regions.

The study programme is backed by strong social partners, ensuring that student internships are not just theoretical exercises but real-life experiences in reputable companies.

International dimension. Students have the opportunity to take part in mobility programmes and have internships abroad. Students can also have their internship placements in various global Kolping network organisations.

INTERNSHIPS DESCRIPTION

Practical training and student internships form a significant part of the curriculum, with 39 credits of internships in entrepreneurship, financial analysis, accounting, and the final internships. This ensures the development of practical skills and the ability to adapt to the constant changes brought about by advances in knowledge and technology. Internships can be carried out under a tripartite practical training contract, either remotely or directly in companies. During the internships, teachers and students collaborate in a virtual environment to produce and evaluate internship reports.

After a successful completion of this programme, the degree of Professional Bachelor of Business Management is awarded.

 

EMPLOYMENT/CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

After completing the study programme graduates will be able to work in the accounting departments of companies and organisations, keep company financial records, prepare financial statements, ensure tax compliance, assist accountants in managing daily financial operations, analyse company financial indicators, prepare forecasts and reports, assess the creditworthiness of companies or individuals, prepare recommendations on granting loans, manage the accounting of small and medium-sized companies, establish accounting services companies, and provide accounting services in other areas.

General college courses (23 credits): 1st Foreign Language I, 1st Foreign Language II, Language Culture, Christian Social Teaching, Philosophy, 2nd Foreign Language I (German), 2nd Foreign Language II (German).

Objective of the study programme

1. Knowledge and its application
1.1. Understand and be able to explain the main theories and principles for analysing and assessing the external (micro- and macroeconomic, political, social, cultural, legal, informational, environmental, etc.) and internal (human, technological, financial and informational resources) factors of an organisation’s environment in the context of sustainability. 1.2. Understand the general principles of economics, management, finance, accounting, auditing, law, mathematics, statistics and information systems, and be able to apply them in practical accounting and finance activities and in solving relevant professional problems. 1.3. Apply knowledge of accounting and finance to analyse and solve problems in financial and management accounting, taxation, auditing, financial management and sustainable development.
2. Competence to conduct research
2.1. Be able to collect, organise and analyse data using modern information technology and research methods to make informed decisions in accounting and finance. 2.2. Be able to carry out empirical research, analyse the results and apply the findings to improve professional performance and organisational effectiveness in accounting and finance.
3. Special abilities
3.1. Be able to plan, organise and execute accounting and financial activities by selecting appropriate technological, organisational and methodological tools, formulating accounting policies, and following standards of professional ethics and principles of sustainable finance. 3.2. Be able to maintain the accounts of business and public sector entities, prepare financial, tax and statistical reports and tax returns, ensuring compliance with legislation and standards. 3.3. Be able to use modern information technology and specialised software to process, analyse and organise financial information and present it to internal and external users. 3.4. Be able to analyse and assess the organisation’s financial position, performance and sustainability indicators, prepare budgets and business plans, and make proposals for financing, investment and resource management, taking into account risk and sustainable development principles.
4. Social skills
4.1. Be able to communicate professionally in the national language and at least one foreign language with professionals and other persons, in the context of professional tasks, and to convey knowledge and understanding in a manner consistent with professional ethics, citizenship and sustainability. 4.2. Be able to think responsibly, critically and coherently about, solve and collaborate on problems in the professional field, flexibly and non-stereotypically, in a changing and multicultural environment
5. Personal skills
5.1. Be able to pursue independent professional development and lifelong learning, and will be aware of their moral, social and legal responsibility for the impact of their performance on the sustainability of society, the economy and the environment; 5.2. Be able to carry out project-based, creative and innovative activities in the field of accounting and sustainable finance, with an interest in scientific innovation, technology and best practice in a changing and international environment.
