Ecological problems and environmental issues are among the most pressing in the world today. Air, water and soil pollution, climate change, decline of biological species, ozone depletion and other negative processes cause alarm about the fate of life on the planet and the future of humanity.
The participants in the process of raising public awareness of environmental problems: communities, families, the media, business world and non-governmental organizations are becoming important contributors to the solutions to these problems. Development of environmental values by providing information about the environment together with non-governmental organizations, schools, educational and cultural institutions, implementation of ecological education projects stimulates not only growing public interest in environmental and nature protection, but also participation in projects that promote ecological awareness and environmentally friendly lifestyle.
Kolping University of Applied Sciences, the activities of which are based on the principles of sustainable development, integrated ecology and corporate social responsibility, on 18 March 2021, organized an international scientific-practical conference “The Importance of Eco-Thinking in Modern Society”. The conference received particular interest. It was attended by about 120 Lithuanian and foreign researchers, scientists, practitioners from various fields of science, listeners from 25 different scientific, business and public sector organizations, for whom eco-thinking and sustainable development in today’s world is a priority.
Participants of the conference gave presentations and shared their insights and experiences in four sections:
- Promoting Eco-awareness in the Community, in Everyday and Professional Life.
- Ecological education and ecological spirituality.
- Promoting eco-awareness in the community, in everyday and professional life.
- Problems of integral ecology and their solutions.
Participants of the conference shared their scientific insights and good practices in the search for answers to the questions: how to promote eco-awareness, how to consolidate the community capable of understanding the current ecological situation through culture and nature, and how to achieve that ethical, aesthetic, psychological, legal relationship of humans with nature would become a determinant for the level of culture.
We truly thank all the conference participants who gave presentations, participated in the discussions, and the listeners as well. We believe that the topics of eco-thinking, instilment of environmental values, and sustainable development will remain also relevant in the future, therefore we look forward to new meetings.
