It all started back in the 19th century. As one of the most prominent leaders of social Catholicism and an excellent social educator, Adolf Kolping has put forward the idea that quality higher education must be accessible to all, regardless of income, social position, race, ethnicity or other factors influencing status of a person. The Kolping International Foundation fully implemented this idea in 1996, in the city of Kaunas, where on 28 May, Kolping school of further education was opened. In 2001, the school became Kolping University of Applied Sciences (KUAS).
KUAS, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary, is pleased to be able to offer today’s school graduates exceptional study programs that no other higher education institution in Lithuania has, such as Child Welfare and Social Security, Ecotourism study programs alongside traditional ones, as Transport Logistics and Social Work Management, so it gives a choice for everyone. Now, KUAS is proud of its distinctly formed identity in the big, 60-nation family of Kolping community, of its exceptional values combined with high quality of studies and strong focus on the maturity of each student’s personality. Through its activities, KUAS seeks to educate and refine society by developing its spirituality, humanitarian, professional and information culture, solidarity and subsidiarity, and perception of the universal good. For all these purposes, KUAS has gathered a team of exceptional specialists in their respective fields, researchers and educators, thanks to whose professionalism and high competence, students graduate having accumulated enough knowledge and skills to enter the labour market on their own. KUAS actively cooperates with more than 100 social partners, both in Lithuania and abroad, so the employment rate of students reaches as much as 90 percent. Students are awarded Founder’s Scholarships in total amount of about 160,000 thousand euros.
25 years – 25 initiatives for the public
According to the Director of KUAS, Ramunė Bagdonaitė-Stelmokienė, KUAS will celebrate its 25th anniversary over the entire year 2021 with various events, social campaigns and initiatives. “The uniqueness of KUAS is created by its community members – students and teachers, administrative staff, and therefore through the ingenuity and knowledge of all, we will provide to the public many useful activities through which we hope to promote Kolping’s values, deliver good emotions and useful experiences. The possibilities to establish live contact are severely limited, so at the beginning of the year a large part of initiatives, events and campaigns have been transferred to the Internet space,” said Ramunė Bagdonaitė-Stelmokienė, Director of KUAS.
The KUAS community is very happy to invite all Lithuanian people to celebrate together. As the KUAS Director has already mentioned, a large number of events, promotions and initiatives will take place online at the beginning of the year, so it will be possible to participate in them while staying at home, directly from your smart device. Information will be presented regularly on the KUAS Facebook page, website, and in other media.
