On 12-13 September 2019, International Modernist Cities Forum “From Modern to Contemporary: Practices in Preserving Architectural Heritage of the 20th Century, based on Tel Aviv Document for Modernist Cities” was held in Kaunas and Vilnius, where KUAS was represented by Doc. Regina Navickienė and teacher Violeta Urbaitė.
This forum is intended to bring together a network of modernist cities associated with UNESCO and to develop cooperation on issues of modernist heritage assessment, financial incentives, urban development needs, community engagement, as cities develop disorderly, undermining cultural, social and historical structure, integrity of heritage values, and welfare of the population. The legacy of the 20th century is particularly sensitive to these challenges.
In the forum, measures to preserve the modernist heritage were proposed – innovative development strategies for urban areas with important 20th century heritage. Speakers at the forum were Dennis Rodwell (UK), Jeremie Hoffmann (Israel), Medhanie Teklemariam (Eritrea), Edward Dennison (UK), Patrizia Bonifazio (Italy), Anke Zalivako (Germany) and other experts on modernism.
